Module 1- Getting Started on my Practice

The first point raised in my very first discussion meeting of BA PP was getting started. I have had my outer start, the date that this course began. However, I feel that this (my first ever) blog is my true inner start! A topic that really resonated with me during our discussion today was how we each individually view our practice. It was so helpful to listen to students who are now on Module 2 and 3 and to gain an idea of how their own practice has developed. This has inspired me to really try and understand my own practice as a starting point for Module 1.

Covid has affected us all. I have gone from being in dance school and having a relatively structured routine to becoming a freelance dance teacher, this change has not come easy. However with this change I believe I have gained another level of understanding of dance as an artform.

I am lucky to be going back to dance school, but I am eager to keep up my teaching work. It is my intention to use both experiences to help me gain more of an insight into my personal practice. I am intrigued to see how it differs across both opportunities I have been given. But I am also keen and excited to see how it develops in the near future.

The Beginning of Module 2

For Module 2 I have chosen to base my proposal inquiry around mental well-being and dance. Coming to this topic as a question to investigate has been a convoluted journey.  Originally I was very interested in how dance helps with physical rehabilitation. After reading some existing literature around it I realised this was a topic that had been researched into a fair amount. What I noticed was missing in a lot of this literature was the mental rehabilitation journey that the patient would also go on through their physical rehabilitation, as surely they both coincide with one another? This surprised me because throughout my professional training I have been able to identify the positive impact dance has had on my own mental wellbeing. Therefore, it raised the idea about wanting to know more about the impact that dance has, or could have, on others mental wellbeing within society, even those who have never really had ties with dance in their life beforehand. Whilst reading some lite...

Gantt Chart Creation

This module has introduced a lot of new challenges to me that I have not encountered before. However, I was happy to see one section of it which I was familiar with and this was Gantt charts. I have previously come across Gantt charts when doing my EPQ at sixth Form and discovered them to be such a helpful way to organise my time. So, in my strange student way I was very excited to do this section as I understood how valuable it will be to module 3 and getting the practical investigation underway and finished on time. I think Gantt charts can appear quite daunting, but they are actually super simple. It is all about making sure you get the right information down, so before I do anything I sit down with a good old-fashioned paper and pen and write out what will need doing for the project. I the sort these under main headings and decide how long they will take to complete, giving a start date and end date. Once I have done this I enter all the information into a table on excel (this ...
